Technology features

Functionality

All technology must fulfill a function. For example, the function of GPS is to locate, the function of a bridge is to allow cars to pass between two banks.

Utility

A technology serves to solve a problem, always serves something. A dam conserves water or serves to generate energy. A hammer is used to drive a nail or destroy an object.

Sequentiality

A technology incorporates a sequence of operations, for example: a radio receiver picks up signals and transforms them into electrical signals, which it then selects at the particular frequency (radio station) and transforms it into sound.

Importance of technology

As scientific knowledge advances, technology can be used to improve many aspects of human life.

In the health

In the early twentieth century, diseases such as pneumonia, whooping cough, and smallpox were responsible for a large number of deaths worldwide. Today, they have diminished or are non-existent thanks to technological advances in the production and improvement of vaccines and antibiotics.

Quality of life

Very few of us have the memory of living in a place without a refrigerator, telephone or computer. But until not many years ago, none of these devices existed.

The way to preserve food was through preservation techniques such as fermentation or brine. With the invention of the refrigerator, food could last longer and be fully utilized.

Before, people communicated through letters and sought information by reading books. Now you just have to move practically one finger and you can communicate with the whole world. Technology remains a means to improve our quality of life.
